The newest film, ‘Mad About the Boy’, premiered on Peacock in February. It continues the saga of Bridget Jones as she navigates life, love, and career challenges in her 40s and 50s. The movies, originally based on Helen Fielding’s novels, follow Bridget’s journey from her chaotic 30s. There are ups and downs of middle age all while maintaining her chain-smoking, wine-loving, endlessly relatable personality.

Classic fans of the franchise will remember Colin Firth and Hugh Grant as her love interests, Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver. In the new instalment, Woodall and Ejiofor step in as fresh romantic contenders.

Zellweger won an Oscar for her performance. It has long received acclaim for capturing Bridget’s quirky charm and perfectly nailing her British accent. While promoting ‘Mad About the Boy’, the actress reflected on how closely she identifies with the character.

“I don’t think I’ll ever let go of Bridget. And I have conversations about Bridget Jones pretty much every day. I meet people on the sidewalk and they want to share their own Bridget Jones experiences. All my friends call me Bridget! She feels very familiar to me,” Zellweger told The Hollywood Reporter.

The statue itself is part of Leicester Square’s ‘Scenes in the Square’ trail. It celebrates some of film and TV’s most iconic characters. Interestingly, Bridget Jones is the first romantic comedy character to be immortalized in the series.

Other statues along the trail feature Paddington Bear, Mr. Bean, Harry Potter, and even the ‘Iron Throne’ from ‘Game of Thrones’.
